Welcome

Hi guys,

Welcome to N5 English. I will add materials, websites and homework to this blog throughout the year to help you.

Please comment below to let me know that you have found the blog and that you are following it.

I am looking forward to working with you all.

Miss C 🙂

Congratulations

Well done guys! You totally smashed that exam and have set the bar for all future classes. I am sooo happy for all of you. It has been a stressful year for you as the first ‘Nat 5ers’ but you rose to the challenge and I couldn’t be prouder of you all.

Good luck in Higher. I’ll be keeping up to date with all of your successes.

A very proud and ecstatic Miss Carswell 🙂

well done

The Fault in Our Stars Class Trip

Hi,

Hope all of your exams are going well and that you’re excited to come back for Higher.

To celebrate the end of your exams, to apologise for the fact I told you that we would study it and didn’t have time, to thank you for being such an awesome class all year and to mark the end of Nat 5 and beginning of Higher I have arranged a class trip to go to see The Fault in Our Stars.

We will be going after school on Friday the 20th June and I am inviting you and Mrs Hall’s class. I’m not exactly sure of prices yet but I doubt it will be more than £10. There are a limited number of tickets available so if you are interested please let me know ASAP and I will put you on the list. First come first served.

Please let your friends in our class and Mrs Hall’s class know in case they do not follow this blog and don’t see this.

Miss Carswell 🙂 🙂 🙂

Good luck.

Hey guys,

Best of luck for tomorrow. Like I said yesterday most of you have gone over and above and really impressed me this year with your dedication and hard work. It’s been a tough year for you guys but you’ve really risen to the challenge and I hope it all pays off tomorrow. No matter what, if you’ve truly done your best, you should be proud of yourself, I certainly am.

Hope those of you who had modern studies today had a good exam and have had time to chill out a bit.

See you tomorrow.

Miss Carswell 🙂

Folio pieces

This is a reminder that ALL folio pieces must be complete and in the school by Thursday. In class you will complete the appropriate paperwork: name, school, candidate number, titles of your pieces, word count for each and sign a declaration stating that it is all your own work. If it is discovered that anything is not your own work you are at risk of not only failing English but all of your other subjects will also be reviewed.

Below is a checklist for you to run through in advance:

  • Give each piece of work an appropriate title – not ‘Personal Essay’ and ‘Persuasive Essay’
  • Make sure your name is on both pieces of work
  • Include your word count, maximum 1,000, on both pieces of work
  • Use a clear font like Arial or Calibri, no larger than 12pt
  • Include your sources as the last page of your Persuasive Essay
  • 1.5 line spaces will make things clear and easy for the marker to read
  • Proof read thoroughly – it is important that your spelling, capital letters, punctuation, paragraphing and sentence construction is accurate or this alone can cause your essay to fail
  • Your essays should represent the best you are capable of and it should be evident the polish and hard work that has gone into producing essays that you are proud of
  • The penalties for plagiarism are SEVERE, so check that anything outwith quotations is entirely your own work and words
  • Proof read again, and again, and again before you print them
  • Proof read again, and again, and again after you have printed them

Please ask any questions here or via email or in person during break, lunch or supported study.

If you come to school on Thursday without your work I will use 1st drafts so be warned.

Final Gatsby Scene

I have added below the stills for the final Gatsby scene that we will study. We will start this on Monday. I have also added a powerpoint that Mr O’Neill has asked me to upload about Edwin Morgan poems. It looks very helpful for revision and poetry analysis. You do not need to print this out but I would advise you save a copy for your reference.
